A smooth jazz show is two hours of great music at a volume you can still talk over, in a room full of grown folks who like to have fun. Wineries and summer amphitheaters are the classic setting: bring a blanket, share a bottle, stay for the encore.

People expect elevator music and get a band that grooves. Sax players walk the aisles. Guitarists trade solos. By the second song the crowd is on its feet. I've made a fool of myself on more than one dance floor and regretted none of it.
